I don’t know about you, but I grew up in the prime age of YouTube. My main source of beauty and skin care recommendations were the YouTubers that I diligently watched. It was a you-had-to-be-there moment; when a brand would release a certain product (or a collection of products) and everyone would be trying them out to give their thoughts. I would then rush to the drugstore to find that exact product and purchase it, with solely their reviews as my basis.
These days, people aren’t as quick to buy products based on the reviews of others, which is a good thing! We’re a lot more discerning of what’s actually in the product, despite the confusing list of ingredients. “Clean beauty” is the term that a lot of people are using and while there’s not an exact definition for it yet, the essence of clean beauty promotes the use of products that don't compromise health. In short, these products are formulated without ingredients that are known or believed to be harmful, both for the user and the planet!
While there's an association between clean beauty and terms like “natural” or “green beauty,” it’s important to understand that clean beauty transcends these labels. A product can be clean without necessarily being natural or organic. The focus here is on safety and non-toxicity, rather than the origin of the ingredients.
