This is something that Rose Bueno, the owner of Artistique Salon and Spa in Mandaluyong, perfectly understands. With over two decades of experience in the industry, her journey is nothing short of inspiring. It’s no wonder her hair wisdom is top-notch and her hair advice is always on-point.
We sat down with her to know what makes Artistique Salon special, talk about the evolution of hair trends, and discuss why hair care doesn’t stop at the end of a salon session. How did you start in the salon industry? Can you share with us a few milestones in your career as a hair stylist that led you to being a salon owner?
I’ve been in the salon industry since 2002. When I started in the salon, I just enjoyed it because I saw my favorite actors and actresses. I realized then that this life is really giving me joy.
I started as a receptionist, and then a purchaser. Then, I became an apprentice, junior stylist, junior colorist, senior stylist. For 17 years, I've taken all the possible work available in a salon. Until one day, I realized the only position I hadn’t taken is to be a salon owner.
Of course, being a salon owner comes with a different set of challenges. How did you manage to bring Artistique Salon to life?
Artistique was really an unexpected blessing. In 2019, when I left the salon where I used to work, I didn't know where to go. Then my friend told me, “I’ll build a salon for you. I want to invest in you. Do whatever you want with it; it’s up to you.” So, I grabbed the opportunity.
Unfortunately, when we started, it was in the middle of the pandemic. We were opening and closing the salon [based on the quarantine restrictions]. And honestly, it’s only recently that we felt like our operations have truly stabilized. Life has just started for Artistique.

We make sure that every service is personalized. Our salon may be new, but the people here are not new to this industry. We have our experience and expertise to back us up.
After two decades in the industry, what hair trends have you witnessed evolve?
Ten years ago, rebonding is really in. But now, people have become busier. Rebonding is out. Keratin is in. People are looking for ways to make their hair smoother and stronger, and want to know how to maintain that same strength and smoothness every day.
