Last June, I was lucky enough to be in Singapore with the entire Parlon team for the ECHELON Asia Summit 2023, organized by e27. And while there, I decided to go get a haircut because it’s something I didn’t have the time to do in Manila. TBH, the heat was a big factor, too, and I really did have a few hours to spare, so why not?
I got on my laptop and went to Parlon Singapore (www.parlon.sg) to search for salons near my area, specifically Orchard Road. The team launched this while in the city (just in time for the conference, too!) and the website was so convenient because it was a directory of salons that already included service menus, opening hours, addresses, and actual photos of the places in it. There, I found Walking on Sunshine, which looked super interesting and pretty from the photos. So I headed there the next morning and my expectations met reality! It was like stepping into a botanical oasis with an industrial twist. The combination of green accents and a sleek interior made this salon one of the prettiest I've ever seen.
Now, I'll be honest, I was a bit worried about the language barrier, as I'm not a fluent speaker of the local tongue. However, my stylist turned out to be an absolute gem. He welcomed me with a warm smile and immediately put my worries at ease.
After settling in the chair, I said that I was there to get a new haircut and shared my concerns about my dry, thick hair that's always been a bit of a styling challenge. Without hesitation, my stylist recommended a layered cut that would maintain the length while making it easier for me to style on a daily basis. I was intrigued.
The experience began with a luxurious shampoo session that felt more like a soothing head massage. The stylist took his time, ensuring the shampoo was thoroughly massaged into my hair, leaving me feeling relaxed and pampered. It honestly was pure bliss. I might’ve fallen asleep for a good few minutes, to be honest.
Once my hair was towel-dried, the cutting process began. My stylist patiently explained each step and the technique he was using all throughout. His precision and attention to detail were evident, as he took his time snipping here and there. I was impressed by how he skillfully created a sense of lightness and reduced the bulkiness of my thick hair without compromising its length. And not once did he complain about the challenge my hair presented, which I found absolutely professional of him.
One delightful surprise came in the form of a free drink from their in-house café. I chose an iced americano, which was the perfect pick-me-up during the session. See, for me, it's these little touches that make the experience all the more memorable.
After the haircut, my stylist took the time to teach me how to effortlessly style my hair for everyday wear. In just five minutes, he shared some valuable tips and tricks that I will definitely be incorporating into my routine. It's such a relief to have a hairstylist who genuinely cares about helping you look your best even after leaving the salon.
I also appreciated the salon's transparency when it came to billing. Before the actual haircut, I was asked to sign the bill, ensuring that there were no unexpected additional charges. Again, it's a minute detail, but it made me feel like they value honesty and open communication.
My experience at Walking on Sunshine was nothing short of exceptional. From the beautiful salon ambiance to the expert care and personalized attention I received, it was an indulgent journey that raised the bar for future haircuts and salon visits. If you find yourself at Orchard Road in Singapore, do yourself a favor and pay this salon a visit. Trust me, your hair will thank you!
